A China Trade of American folk-art reverse painting on glass depicting the Great Public, a wooden side-wheeler operated by San Francisco's Pacific Mail Steamship Company, on the first regular trans-Pacific steamer service in 1867. Not only did trade and investment with Asia take off, but the pioneering route paved the way for Chinese and Japanese immigration, which has vastly enriched our economy and our culture.
